A RARE .450 No2 SINGLE-SHOT BACK-POSITION MATCH RIFLE, MODEL '1868 PATENT', serial no. 38L,
early type circa 1869, with blued tapering 35in. barrel, marked '.450' forwards of the breech and 'HENRY'S PATENT RIFLING' forwards of the rear-sight, provision for a Westley Richards patent tangent fore-sight with vernier adjustment (missing), a wrist mounted match peep-sight and a heel mounted sight (also both missing), blued action body signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT around the rear of the feed-ramp, rare vertical cocking indicator to rear of action, walnut straight-hand half-stock chequered at the wrist and fore-end, raised side-cheeks, auxilliary wood mount at heel for the afore mentioned sight, iron heel-plate, colour-hardened under-lever, and safety catch behind the trigger horn fore-end tip, much original blued finish remaining
Literature: This actual rifle is dealt with on pages 38-40 of Wal Winfer's book 'British Single Shot Rifles, Volume 4'. It is believed to be the only known back position match rifle built on this patent
