A .50-70 (GOVT) SINGLE-SHOT BREECH-LOADING SERVICE RIFLE, MODEL '1866 ALLIN CONVERSION', no visible serial number,
dated for 1866, with round 36 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, folding rear-sight, flip-open breech-block with side release catch, the top of block stamped '1866' with an eagles head, bar-action lock with bevel-edges signed 'US' over 'SPRINGFIELD' and marked with an American eagle and dated '1865' at the tail, walnut straight-hand three-quarter stock, iron furniture and under-barrel iron clearing rod
