circa 1860, with reblued round 25 3/4in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, dove-tailed elevating rear-sight, scroll engraved rearward hinged lift-up breech signed 'JAS H MERRILL, BALTO, PATENTED JULY 1858', top-tang with provision for peep-sight (missing), recoloured border and scroll engraved bar-action lock, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, patch-box with replacement lid inlet to the right hand side of butt, crescent heel-plate with additional toe-plate (inlet repair at toe), pistol-gripped spurred trigger-guard bow, double set-triggers, scroll engraved winged side-nail cup and splinter fore-end with carved schnabel tip
