circa 1865, with blued 20in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, folding rear-sight, colour hardened action, the left hand side signed 'PEABODY'S PATENT JULY 22 1862, MAN'F'D BY PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. PROV. R.I.', fitted with a saddle-ring, colour-hardened back-action lock with external hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock stamped with an inspectors cartouche at wrist, colour-hardened butt-plate, colour-hardened under-lever and walnut three-quarter length fore-end with iron barrel-band, the whole retaining virtually all its original factory finish and colour
