serial number on barrels and fore-end wood only, 30in. black powder only fine damascus barrels, rib engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.', (refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 3/4 choke, rounded bar action with number 35160 at knuckle, carved percussion fences, toplever with engraved 'PATENT' in Scott script, rebounding sidelocks, one hammer a replacement, fine border and scroll engraving, the lockplates signed 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND' in italicised form, brushed finish overall, 14 5/8in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with carved horn pistolgrip-cap and steel buttplate, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release catch, weight 6lb. 11oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed on the 7th December 1883 for 'McCarthy'. The gun is recorded as being a '12-bore, bar action, toplever, low hammers, rebounding locks, snap forend, pistol hand' and the number 35160 is written in margin of the page
