AN EXTREMELY RARE 40-BORE FOUR-SHOT OVERCOAT PISTOL WITH REVOLVING HAMMER-NOSE, MODEL 'RIGBY TYPE', no visible serial number,
circa 1830, with round 2 1/8in. turn-off barrels numbered '1' through '4' (frozen), starred muzzles with false rifling, fluted breech-block, the centre-top engraved with a spray of acanthus leaves with an angled flat behind for the four separate nipples in a square formation, squared border engraved boxlock action signed on the left 'INVENTED BY MHW. MURPHY', the right hand side signed 'DUBLIN', border and scroll engraved top-plate, central spurred hammer, the hammer nose with uni-directional rotating coin-edged circular hand-rotated plate with offset striker, stop-spring mounted to right hand side of hammer, smooth, slightly swollen walnut one-piece butt and concealed folding automatic trigger, the whole with traces of finish throughout
