probably German, circa 1690, comprising of a border and scroll engraved iron 'box' approximately 2 3/8in. x 3/4in. x 1/2in., the top signed in script 'M. FRECON', hinged side compartment with hook closure for storing tinder, side-mounted hammer with neck cranked to the centre, external mainspring with engraved detail and trigger release, forward 'U' shaped belt suspender with diagonal carved decoration, the whole with some staining
