A RARE 14.5x41R SINGLE-SHOT TRAPDOOR RIFLE, MODEL 'SPANISH BERDAN', serial no. 2172, ref. no. 0142
dated for 1866, with 36 1/2in. sighted barrel (finish cleaned) marked 'MAXIMO' behind the ladder rear-sight, hinged trapdoor at breech affixed to the top of the barrel by a screw-down block, spring-catch closure, plain dated lock with side-hammer and stamped with a crown over 'AR' cypher, walnut three-quarter stock stamped with a crown over 'OVIEDO 1866' within a circle and 'No. 2172', iron butt-plate with heel-return, iron furniture including three barrel-bands, under-barrel clearing rod (tip broken off and missing) and sling-swivels, missing nose-cap, complete with its weapons collection identity disc
