A FACSIMILE VICTORIAN BOWIE-KNIFE,
produced circa 1965 in imitation of an 1870's example with broad 9 1/2in. clip-point blade false edged for the last 5 1/2in., the left hand side of blade stamped 'G. WOSTENHOLM & SON, WASHINGTON WORKS, NONE ARE GENUINE BUT THOSE MARKED I*XL' alongside an eagle with spread wings clutching three crossed arrows, the pair above an etched panel edged with scrolls and bearing the inscription 'THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED', the ricasso stamped 'I*XL', nickel bolstered cross-guard with trefoil quillions, natural stag-horn scales held by four nickel rivets, heavy solid tang widening towards the pommel and bolstered with milled edge brass, COMPLETE WITH its black leather scabbard with gilt embossed border, centrally marked 'I*XL' and nickel mounts with frog-stud, the whole appearing unused
