A 16-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'LEFAUCHEAUX PATENT', serial no. 1256,
circa 1860, with 31 3/4in. etched damascus barrel (cleaned of finish), flat top-rib with brass bead fore-sight, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang with carved pin-guards, borderline and acanthus scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'B. EBBEKE' on the right and 'HERZBERG' on the left beneath the hammers, the right lock featuring an engraving of a running fox in a rocky setting, the left with gamebirds in flight in a woodland setting, highly figured chequered walnut butt-stock with a hinged lid shaped patch-box engraved with a stag and hind within an engraved border, brushed bright iron heel-plate bearing the serial number and scroll engraved detail, raised cheek-piece, iron trigger-guard tang with moulded horn finger-piece, shaped trigger-guard bow engraved with scrolls and a hind feeding from a tree, set trigger on the right barrel, scroll engraved iron action body with swing under-lever and iron detachable fore-end en-suite.
