BAREND PENTERMAN, UTRECHT
AN 18-BORE FLINTLOCK SILVER-MOUNTED HOLSTER-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1710, with possibly shortened slightly swamped triple-stage 12in. barrel, the front section of polygonal form, octagonal breech changing to sixteen-sided with rear stepped moulding, plain solid tang with sighting groove, slightly curved, flat lock with stepped tail and moulded border, signed forwards of the hammer 'PENTERMAN, UTRECHT', faceted hammer jaws and frizzen (top jaw and screw expertly replaced), lightly carved figured walnut full-stock (expertly replaced) with cast and chased mounts, faceted, grotesque mask butt-cap with long ears and extended engraved spurs, pierced sideplate with three mythical beast-heads and a mask inhabiting foliage, moulded trigger-guard with foliate finial and grotesque mask, vacant pierced escutcheon with opposing demi-figures at wrist, faceted ramrod thimbles and silver-tipped wood ramrod
