A 22-BORE FLINTLOCK SASH-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1730, with slightly swamped 8 5/8in. barrel, cannon muzzle, moulded band at breech with foliate engraving extending forwards, further foliate engraving around the applied brass fore-sight, border engraved top-tang, border engraved flat bevel-edged lockplate with foliate engraved stepped tail, signed forwards of the hammer ''G. MASSIN', border engraved hammer, walnut full-stock with artificial figuring (some cracks and repairs to fore-end), brass furniture including bulbous long-eared butt-cap with central grotesque mask and relief carved foliage, irregular shaped vacant escutcheon surmounted with a coronet to the wrist, pierced sideplate of floral scrolls surrounding a grotesque mask, the trigger guard bow engraved with a winged mask and shells, octagonal ramrod pipes and later brass tipped ramrod
