OGER LEBLAN, MAASTRICHT
AN 18-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1720, with swamped 13 3/4in. barrel, carved tapering flat sighting plane with the makers signature on a small inlaid brass panel, applied brass fore-sight, the sighting plane interrupted at the breech in a spray of relief foliage, three small struck Dutch marks at breech-end, flared brass top-tang engraved with acanthus leaves on a punched ground, brass border engraved faceted lockplate signed 'OGER LEBLAN', faceted pan and frizzen, lightly carved walnut full-stock (cracks and small losses), brass bulbous long-eared butt-cap with a central grotesque mask bordered by relief foliage, pierced sideplate featuring two winged lions supporting a shield charged with a putto-mask, the trigger-guard bow with a Classical figure seated on a spray of foliage to each side, pierced irregular shaped escutcheon with a central portrait bust, surmounted with a coronet, the whole above a mask, faceted ramrod thimbles and original wood ramrod
