A 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 14048,
30in. nitro reproved Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels, rib engraved '1' and 'J. PURDEY & SONS, AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' (faint), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, left wall at 19, toplever engraved '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, removable striker discs, arrow cocking-indicators, articulated front trigger, best fine floral bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining some colour-hardening and renewed finish, 14 3/4in. boldly-figured stock including wooden buttplate, light repair to fore-end, weight 6lb. 10oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in March 1892 for an R.J. Jones. A second gun, serial no. 15888 was subsequently built to match (see Lot 1411)
