German, first quarter of the 18th century, possibly by Bader & Bader, Munich, with swamped octagonal deeply rifled 31 3/4in. barrel, dove-tailed bead fore-sight, brass eared rear-sight, makers mark at tang, flat, squared wheel-lock mechanism fully engraved with scenes of hunters both mounted and standing stalking deer (engraving cleaned with pitting, staining and loss to detail), walnut full-stock (fore-end renewed, repairs and splits around lock and breech), triangular profile butt with raised, sloping cheek-piece, the edge with stag horn decoration, sliding wood patch-box cover enhanced with stag-horn and scroll carving to the fore, shaped brass heel-plate with button at heel, plain trigger with finger-grooved brass guard, shaped finial with en-suite ramrod throat, turned brass faceted ramrod thimbles and replacement ramrod, no key
