circa 1800 with later percussion conversion, three-groove rifled octagonal 32in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'JOHN SAMPSON, NORTH JOHN STREET, LIVERPOOL', dove-tailed blade fore-sight adjustable on a worm, the rear-sight with three folding leaves each with a central gold line, scroll engraved top to the squared central breech, unfinished replacement snail and shoulder, modified border and scroll engraved lock signed 'JOHN SAMPSON' (incomplete, possible internal losses), stylised 'fish-scale' chequered hammer side with Smiths patent replaceable nose, chequered walnut half-stock with later diopter rear-sight fitted to wrist, iron furniture including an iron patch-box and hinge engraved with scrolls, a stag and a doe (upside-down), scroll engraved heel-plate spur, chequered pistol-grip spur to the trigger-guard tang, double-set triggers, pineapple finial, turned ramrod throat, plain ramrod thimbles and replacement ramrod
