PATENT No. 23', borderline engraved military style lock signed 'E.M. REILLY & CO, 502 NEW OXFORD ST, LONDON', plain hammer with chained nipple-protector, chequered walnut three-quarter stock, iron furniture with engraved screws, grip-safe behind the trigger-guard bow (disabled), two barrel-bands, nose-cap and jag-ended ramrod
Other Notes: Brothers C. E. and J. Green took out a Provisional Patent in 1860 and the full Patent in 1862 for their bolt action system. The gun offered here is one of the first produced (licence use number 23) and was probably officer private purchase. A plainer, but identical actioned carbine without the grip safe was submitted for trials in 1864, but despite being a finalist, lost out to the Snider
