circa 1856 and loosely following the lines of a scaled down Pattern 1842, with 33in. blued barrel rifled in 3 grooves, Birmingham proofs, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, flat, borderline engraved bar-action lock signed 'FORREST & SONS, JEDBURGH', chained nipple-protector, walnut three-quarter stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture, one side-nail and two take-down wedges, iron nose-cap, bayonet bar to the right hand side of muzzle and jag-ended ramrod
