circa 1810, with later patent conversion to percussion, the triple-stage 30 1/2in. barrel signed 'PATENT' on the top-flat near breech, bead fore-sight, turned band at the intersection, octagonal breech with gold-lined rectangular poincon signed 'SPENCER', engraved band and two further gold bands at breech, the top-tang engraved with acanthus foliage and a hunting dog at rest, drum and nipple conversion with square bolted plug, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged lock with engraved borders, stepped front and tail, foliage engraved detail, the forward portion signed 'SPENCER' in script, foliate engraved shaped hammer with patent drum-head, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (losses to edges of fore-end wood), sunburst figured butt with raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including heel-plate with engraved spur, scrolled trigger-guard tang, engraved trigger-guard bow with pineapple finial, turned ramrod throat and two plain ramrod thimbles with rolled ends, later replacement ramrod
