circa 1850, with octagonal 4in. barrel signed 'HEWSON, LONDON' on the top-flat, bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, squared patent breech with engraved bands and platinum lines, platinum vent, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'HEWSON', scroll engraved hammer with sliding safe behind, walnut three-quarter stock with chequered bag-shaped butt, silver oval escutcheon to wrist and captive iron swivel ramrod and stirrup
