A GOOD CASED .451 (WHITWORTH) PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT MILITARY MATCH RIFLE, serial no. C638,
circa 1865, with 33in. sighted barrel marked 'WHITWORTH PATENT' (rubbed, barrel exterior frosted), dove-tailed fore-sight blade, elevating ladder rear-sight, moulded short sighting rib at breech, base for an aperture vernier-sight fitted behind the barrel tang, later flash-guard around nipple, flat plain bar-action lock signed 'MANCHESTER ORDNANCE & RIFLE CO' and with crowned corn bushel trade mark with the letter 'W' on the tail, figured walnut three-quarter stock with chequered grip and fore-end, blued iron mounts, the trigger-guard tang marked '2ND. QUALITY', iron sling mounts, and iron ramrod, Birmingham proof marks, TOGETHER WITH the manufacturers original oak storage case, original pasted trade-label to inside of lid and compartmented in the English manner and containing a number of period and original accessories including a Hawksley leather-covered powder-flask with special patent nozzle, a cap-tin and a tin for felt wads, a nickel oil bottle and other sundry cleaning and maintenance items along with the vernier tang-sight
