A 12-BORE 'ROYAL' SINGLE-TRIGGER HAND-DETACHABLE SIDELOCK EJECTOR LIVE PIGEON GUN, serial no. 29430, with two sets of barrels,
30in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and 1/4 choke;
extra 28in. nitro chopperlump barrels (by the makers in 1956), the rib gold-inlaid with a star at the breech end, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and 3/4 choke;
treble-grip action with hidden third bite, sideclips, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, hand detachable lockplates, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguard, later conversion to single trigger (by the makers in 1956), best 'Royal' scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. figured replacement stock including 3/4in. recoil pad, weight 7lb. 8oz. and 7lb. 3oz. (extra barrels), in its leather case with provision for both sets of barrels
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed on the 15th January, 1927 for a 'Boero'.
This lot is accompanied by correspondence between the makers and a Mr Gaspar Tedesco of Columbia (a previous owner) documenting alterations made to the gun, including: Reducing choke in the right tube to 1/2 choke, converting the gun to a single trigger, replacing the stock, supplying a new set of barrels, and supplying a new case. The cost of this work was £227. 17. 6., and took around 13 months
