29in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the tubes gold-inlaid with elegant foliate tendrils at the breech end, 6mm solid rib gold-inlaid '"THE QUAIL" F.LLI PIOTTI BRESCIA ITALY', 3in. chambers, bored approx imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, hold-open toplever, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, rolled-edge triggerguard, the action and furniture profusely and finely gold-inlaid with slender flowing foliate scrollwork, the pinless sidelocks carved in high relief and with a fine brace of ambulatory Northern bobwhite quail in a rocky setting on the left, the right with a brace of bobwhite quail carved in high relief in flight over a Texan landscape with scattered opuntia, the underside with a portrait of a bobwhite quail carved in high relief, the quail all platinum-inlaid, the backdrops all expertly accented and highlighted with 24 carat yellow, green, rose and white gold, the triggerplate signed 'G.S. Pedretti', retaining full original colour-hardening and finish, 15in. exhibition-grade walnut semi-pistolgrip stock, weight 5lb. 9oz., in its makers fitted brass-cornered oak and leather case with some accessories
Other Notes: We have been kindly informed by Mr Pedretti that this gun was dedicated to the bobwhite quail following a hunt in Texas.
The engraving was all highlighted with 24 carat gold, coloured green, white and red. The quails are platinum, and the detail was performed in the bulino style.
In total, the engraving took 600 man hours to complete.
