A RARE AMERICAN MARINE CORP KNIFE , MODEL 'CARSON'S RAIDERS',
privately purchased by Col James Roosevelt for issue to the 2nd Raider Battalion U.S.M.C. in 1942, with 9 1/4in. clip-point blade signed 'COLLINS & CO LEGITIMUS MADE IN USA NO18' together with an arm and hammer trademark, twin lines carved near the back-edge to both sides, brass cross-guard with ball finials and horn grips held by five brass rivets, COMPLETE WITH its original tooled leather scabbard embossed with 'COLLINS & CO LEGITIMUS' together with a picture of an arm wielding a hammer above a crown and a large number '13' (leather retaining strap at fault)
Other Notes: This is the famous 'Gung-Ho' knife of the US Marine Corps and were privately purchased using battalion funds for issue to the troops of the 2nd Raider Battalion, they were not made to a government contract unlike its similar cousin, the V44
