A RARE DETACHED FLINTLOCK MECHANISM FOR A CHARLES MANTON PATENT CARBINE,
dated 1835, of flat, slightly curved form with stepped, clipped tail, borderline engraved and bevel-edged, the signature in block letters underneath the rainproof pan together with a 'W.R.' and crown device, borderline engraved hammer, sliding safe behind with internal intercept, frizzen with applied hardened face, rainproof pan, internal frizzen-spring with roller and strong traces of original colour
Other Notes: Charles Manton (son of Joseph Manton) was Master Furbisher at the Tower of London. In 1830 he designed a carbine which was produced by Ezekiel Baker. After some modifications, in 1834,1000 Charles Manton Pattern Carbines were ordered, with the production being carried out during 1836-37.
