circa 1810, with broad strongly curved 32 1/2in. hatchet-tipped blade, stirrup hilt with turned down quillion and twin langets, ribbed leather grip (wire binding absent), plain curved pommel with reinforcing side-pieces, complete with its iron scabbard, maker marked at the neck and engraved 'C.M MENZIES, CARR BRIDGE', the whole with surface staining
