A RARE .50 (SPENCER) TWIST-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
manufactured 1864-65, with blued 30in. round barrel, pinched blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, slab-sided rounded-top and bottom breech marked 'KENTUCKY' and stamped with a previous owners name 'C.L. BISHOP', slab-sided central hammer receiver signed 'MERIDEN MAN.FG. CO., MERIDEN, CONN.', the top-tang marked 'TRIPLETT & SCOTT PATENT DEC. 6 1864' and mounted with the barrel-release button, sprung trapdoor for the concealed tubular magazine in the butt, walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate, sling swivels mounted at heel and toe, walnut splinter fore-end with singular iron barrel-band

Other Notes: Only 3000 rifles were produced out of the total production of 5000 guns, all for Kentucky. Destined to be used by Home Guard troops guarding Union supply lines, they arrived too late for Civil War action.
