originally produced in 1863 as a capping breech loader with subsequent conversion in 1868 to metallic cartridge, with round 22in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, ladder rear-sight, vertical dropping breech-block within the plain receiver, the back-action lock signed 'C. SHARPS PAT. OCT 5TH 1852', the side of receiver marked 'R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. APRIL 12TH 1858' (top-tang cracked through and repaired at rear of feed-ramp), walnut butt-stock with semi-crescent heel-plate, saddle-bar and ring to left hand side and splinter walnut fore-end with one iron barrel-band
