* A .452 PERCUSSION-CAPPING BREECH-LOADING SPORTING-RIFLE SIGNED 'J.R. & CO.', MODEL 'MONKEY-TAIL', serial no. 62988,
circa 1864, with 25in. barrel, applied full-length sighting rib with dove-tailed bead fore-sight and 'Africa' style express rearsight with provision for 6 folding leaves (one missing), the rib-end stamped 'WHITWORTH RIFLING', squared breech stamped 'J.R.' and marked with the additional numbers 'P4617' and '950', lift-up breech-block stamped 'J.R. & CO' within an oval surrounded by 'TRADE MARK', similar stamp to the borderline engraved lock, chequered walnut semi-pistol grip three-quarter stock, the grip-pommel carved with the mask of a lion, iron furniture, chequered trigger-blade, one barrel key and one half barrel-band, iron nose-cap and clearing rod (exposed iron surfaces brushed with some pitting)
