AN EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE CASED 80-BORE PERCUSSION PARK-RIFLE, MODEL 'RIVIERE PATENT', serial no. 235,
circa 1825-30, with browned octagonal 27in. twist barrel signed 'RIVIERE RIFLE. GUN MAKER. LONDON' on the top-flat, blued dove-tailed blade fore-sight, blued dove-tailed rear-sight with standing notch and two folding leaves patent breech with twin inlaid platinum lines and vented platinum plug, one-piece standing breech and action cover engraved with scrolls and foliage, a central engraved panel signed 'RIVIERE PATENT 235' and with off-centre exposed hammer, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, engraved iron furniture including pistol-grip spurred trigger-guard tang and moulded fore-end tip, single set-trigger, white metal plate blow breech, silver barrel-key escutcheons, and original brass-mounted mushroom-headed ebony ramrod with worm, Birmingham proof marks, the whole in fine condition with much original colour and finish TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers walnut case, compartmented and lined in olive velvet and complete with many original accessories including special double cavity mould with sizer, bullet starter, embossed powder flask with fixed charger and signed 'JAMES DIXON & SONS, SHEFFIELD', wad punches, turnscrew and nipple key plus other sundry cleaning items
