serial number on fore-end wood only, 28in. nitro reproved replacement barrels (by another), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 3/4 choke, rounded bar action, automatic safety, lockplates signed 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND', border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright finish overall, triggerguard tang cracked and repaired, 15 1/2in. stock including 1 7/8in. wooden extension, fore-end with light damage at edges, weight 6lb. 10oz.
Provenance: The makers records are inconclusive as to whether this gun is by them. Serial number 6861 (which appears only marked on the fore-end wood on this gun and not on the action or triggerguard) is listed simply as a 'New double breech loader 12' made for a Capt. O. Smith. The date is obscured, but is likely to be circa 1881.
