Provenance: The vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:
This gun was given to Claude Martin, who was born in Plympton in 1877, by his father.
He joined the Coldstream Guards during the First World War, and he was killed at the Battle of Cambrai in December 1917. He is buried in France.
The gun was then given to his nephew, Dr Thomas Davie of Tavistock, who used it extensively until 1970. It was passed onto his grandson when he was 15 and he used it up to 2014 when he decided he longer wished to shoot. The gun was extensively restored in 1986 by William Powell
