the rifle dated for 1863, with blued 39in. barrel rifled in three grooves, block and blade fore-sight retaining a period blued spring-steel cover marked 'S.P. WALKER PATENT', elevating ladder rear-sight, the breech with commercial proofs and stamped 'LAC' in numerous places, plain military-style lock stamped with the date and 'L.A.Co.' together with a 'VR' crown cypher at tail, chequered walnut three-quarter stock, brass furniture, three iron barrel-bands and jag-ended iron ramrod; TOGETHER WITH a period socket bayonet signed 'F. PRESTON, MANCHESTER', complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard
