EX SMALL ARMS SCHOOL CORPS WEAPONS COLLECTION
A SCARCE 25-BORE FLINTLOCK TURN-OVER SPORTING-GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number, ref. no. 0034,
circa 1740, with 32 1/4in. triple-staged barrels, applied crescent fore-sights, pinched leaf rear-sight (one absent), carved bands at the intersection, the breech-end of the barrels with half-lockplates mounting the lozenge pans, frizzens and engraved frizzen-springs, the right hand side behind breech with the lockplate (traces of engraving, possible trace of signature), top-jaw and screw missing to hammer, walnut butt-stock with carved borders around the top-tang, carved panels to the wrist and further carving around the raised cheek-piece, brass heel-plate with bulbous heel, brass side-plate, faceted brass trigger-guard with raised tang and finger-spur, the front pillar of the bow containing the turn-over release catch, full-length walnut slats forming the fore-end, one with provision for ramrod (missing), the whole cleaned with small losses, some cracks, splits and worm damage to fore-end wood, loose at action joint, the cheek-piece bearing the Weapons Collection plaque and the identity disk attached to the trigger-guard
