circa 1780, with 7in. heavily swamped brass barrel, twin moulded bands at muzzle, private proofs at breech, squared boxlock action, the left side signed 'J&W RICHARDS', the right 'LONDON' both within an oval within a stand of flags, central hammer with sliding safe to top-tang, plain walnut slab-sided grip (inlets at head), sliding iron trigger-guard bow originally retaining the under-barrel sprung bayonet of triangular cross-section (last 4in. of tip broken off but present) and side-mounted brass-tipped wood ramrod
