A SUBSTANTIAL 14-BORE PERCUSSION MATCH-RIFLE, serial no. R31,
circa 1800 and converted from flintlock, with heavy octagonal 37 1/4in. barrel, the top-flat signed R. PFENINGER A STAFA' within an engraved cartouche, dove-tailed fore-sight, large standing adjustable rear-sight with pendulum, scroll engraved top-tang, small lock with border engraving signed 'R. PFENINGER A STAFA' and retaining part of the flintlock pan, carved hammer with swinging dog-safety, the opposite side with wing-nuts for quick release of lock, walnut full-stock with chequered panels at the wrist, shaped cheek-piece with brass inlay, heavy Swiss-style hooked brass butt-plate, brass finger-groover trigger-guard bow, double-set triggers, three barrel keys, brass fore-end tip and brass mounted wood ramrod, bayonet bar at muzzle, weight approximately 16lb.
