A FINE 12-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'LEFAUCHEUX PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1855, the barrels converted from muzzle-loading, with fine etched damascus 28in. barrels (one straight rifled), broad top-rib engraved with an 'A.M.' monogram at the breech, ramrod lip at muzzle and traces of threading in chambers, standing breech with carved hammer nose recesses, the top tang relief carved with a fox and engraved with scrolls and vine-leaves surround a repeated 'A.M.' monogram, the details picked out in gold, chisel carved vine and game scene engraved back-action locks with 'B.A. JIRKU' signed on the right hand lock and 'IN REICHENBERG' on the left, the details and wording picked out in gold, moulded scroll engraved hammers, highly figured walnut butt-stock, the wrist carved with running vines, the rear of butt similarly carved (shortened and re-extended with the original wood), engraved iron heel-plate, moulded horn cover to the trigger-guard tang, engraved trigger-guard bow with scrolled flat front, chisel-carved, rounded, vine-leaf and game scene engraved action body with gilded detail, large engraved 'Lefaucheux' swing under-lever, small walnut fore-end carved with running vines to the sides and barrel release catch to the front
