A PAIR OF 40-BORE PERCUSSION TRAVELLING PISTOLS IN A LATER CASE, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1840, with twist iron, browned octagonal 4 1/2in. barrels, the top-flats signed '233 HOLBORN LONDON', bead fore-sights, scroll engraving to the coloured breech-blocks and top-tangs, moulded snails with platinum vents, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'PARKER FIELD & SONS' (strong traces of colour), borderline and scroll engraved hammers, walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, vacant rectangular silver escutcheons to wrists, later silver shield-shaped escutcheons behind the side-nails, blued trigger-guard bows and tangs, brass-tipped wood ramrod, much finish remaining throughout TOGETHER WITH a later box made and fitted for these pistols, reproduction parchment label to inside lid, compartmented and lined in burgundy baize and containing a number of period accessories including a turnscrew, mould and flask, the outer lid with inlet brass oval with flush fitting handle
