A RARE MACHETE-BAYONET FOR THE LEE-ENFIELD No1 MKIII INTERMEDIATE RIFLE, serial no. 3121,
dated for 1944, with heavy 11in. bolo-style machete blade false edged for the last 4in., the hilt conforming in all respects to a pattern 1907 without quillion, broad arrow stamp to forte, Slazenger manufacturer's marks to the wood scales; COMPLETE WITH its issue canvas and webbing scabbard with riveted tin reinforcement at throat and chape

Other Notes: Both the bayonet and the rifle Lee Enfield No1 MKIII 'Intermediate' were only produced on small scale. Approximately 100 examples of the rifle were manufactured, although the rifle was never actually adopted. It is believed that only around 2000 bayonets were produced. The official designation for the bayonet was 'Bayonet Parachutist, ex machete 'I' type' and it was intended for Paratroop and Commando use in jungle warfare against the Japanese.
