the first for a Pattern '53 or Snider .577, circa 1870, with straight 18 3/4in. spear-point blade signed 'A.A.& S.', straight cross-guard, composite chequered grips (worn), the second similar but for a Martini-Henry, with 25 3/4in. spearpoint blade stamped with a 'VR' crown and ordnance marks, iron 'D' shaped knuckle-bow and composite chequered grips, both minus scabbards
