A 30-BORE FLINTLOCK PISTOL OF 'HISTORISMUS' STYLE FORMED FROM EARLIER PARTS, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
constructed circa 1850 with early 18th Century lock and barrel, iron octagonal to sixteen-sided 10 1/4in. barrel, heavily flared muzzle, the sixteen sided portion with alternating gilded faces, the octagonal section engraved with panels of tulips, the breech-section rounded and engraved with a gilt-washed standing male figure in ancient costume, solid top-tang engraved with a further gilded tulip, large flat bevel-edge lockplate, the pointed tail engraved with a gilded male mask, a gilded stag at rest engraved forwards of the hammer, gilded foliate engraving to the hammer-breast and top-jaw, faceted pan and lozenge-shaped unbridled frizzen, walnut full-stock, the wrist of square-section, large spherical pommel and rounded fore-end, the wood-work profusely inlaid with panels of ivory engraved with floral designs, suns, moons and stars, together with mythical feathered serpents, the top of wrist with large panel depicting hounds pursuing a stag in a woodland setting, the underside forwards of the trigger-guard bow with a large panel depicting a standing male figure in Roman costume, the engraved iron trigger-guard bow and ramrod throat also possibly modified from an earlier piece, the bow engraved with a standing male, the ramrod throat with traces of gilding, ivory fore-end cap and ivory-tipped ramrod
