circa 1780, with slightly swamped two-stage 8in. barrel, the breech signed 'BATE LONDON', London proofs, engraved ball-band at breech-end and solid foliate engraved top-tang, flat bevel-edged step-tailed lock signed forwards of the hammer 'BATE' (top-jaw and screw missing, walnut full-stock (cracked behind lock and through rear side-nail), swollen pommel to the grip capped in undated London hallmarked silver embossed with a lion regardant behind a castle wall with fallen cannon, the remainder of the furniture in iron including an acorn finial and engraved trigger-guard bow, complete with its original bone-tipped ebony ramrod
