A CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-ACTION TRIGGER-COCKING REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S PATENT', serial no. 8740,
circa 1854, with 6in. octagonal barrel engraved at muzzle and breech, the top-strap signed 'CHARLES NEPHEW, CALCUTTA' within an engraved border, solid border-line and scroll engraved frame, plain cylinder with engraved rope-band to leading edge, spurless hammer, one-piece walnut grip (chequering removed), secondary cocking trigger extending beneath the trigger-guard, barrel-mounted articulated rammer (retaining catch absent), the whole stripped of finish with detail rubbed; TOGETHER WITH a period (probably original to the pistol) walnut storage case, compartmented and lined in green baize and containing a number of period accessories not original to this pistol, a paper label with a printed armourial to the inside of lid
