circa 1866, with 20in. sighted round barrel with elevating, folding 'ladder' rear-sight, stamped 'M1865' on nocksform, top of breech-block inscribed 'SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS PAT/D MARCH 6 1860, MANUF'D AT PROV. R.I. BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO.', breech with cartridge cut-off, saddle bar to left hand side, walnut stock and fore-end, steel butt-plate with aperture for removable magazine (present), steel sling swivel and barrel band
