WEBLEY & SCOTT
A BOXED .177 BARREL-COCKING ENGRAVED AIR-PISTOL, MODEL 'JUNIOR', batch no. 1217,
circa 1955, with blued smoothbore 6in. barrel, fixed rear-sight, the sides of the breech-block with checker-board engraving, left side of air-chamber with model details and Birmingham address, two pin trigger group, chequered black plastic grips embossed 'WEBLEY' at the tops, retaining a good amount of original blue but with some frosting to high-spots; TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers 'crocodile effect' card carton, orange coloured illustrated lid and internal instructions, complete with a period carton of 'WEBLEY SPECIAL' pellets (some contents), the box in fair condition (label stained and lifting)
Other Notes: Due to the casting element of the construction process, it was not uncommon for slight blemishes to be present in the bodies of the Junior model air-pistol. The easiest (and cheapest) way to disguise these marks was to engrave over them. This engraving job was usually tasked to the apprentices, and varies in style from small scrolled details to whole panels. Even though this work was carried out in the factory, it should not be confused with 'factory engraving'.
