A GOOD PAIR OF 20-BORE WHITE-METAL MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOLS FOR THE MIDDLE-EASTERN MARKET, UNSIGNED, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1780, with 13in. barrels possibly of earlier Dutch origin, chiselled foliate engraving and rubbed makers marks to breech-ends, carved central half-ribs with false signature (cleaned, loss to detail), long white-metal muzzle-caps embossed with vines around a central raised boat-shaped fore-sight, carved and nielloed borders, turned muzzles, false integral ramrod pipes, the top-tangs covered with granular white-metalwork, engraved bevel-edged locks with pointed tails also possibly of earlier European manufacture, walnut full-stocks, the backs completely covered with sheet white-metal with applied geometric granular and filigree decoration, silver long-spurred butt-caps with applied and gilded floral designs with a nielloed background, the undersides of the grip alongside the bottom tang with white-metal panels applied with filigree scrolls, iron trigger-guards with applied white-metal decoration, pierced sideplates of European design (one partially absent), the exposed wood of the fore-ends profusely inlet with white-metal wire scrolls (one pistol cracked through forwards of lock, both with small losses and possible other faults)
