A CASED .36 PERCUSSION BOOT-PISTOL, MODEL 'ETHEN ALLEN'S PATENT', serial no. 665,
circa 1848, with 5in. two-stage rifled barrel, engraved coin-edged band at the intersection and breech, the top-flat signed 'ALLEN THURBER & CO', scroll engraved rounded boxlock action, central double-action only hammer marked 'ALLEN'S PATENT 1845', smooth walnut bag-shaped grips, decorated back-strap and replacement trigger-guard bow; TOGETHER WITH a period but probably unassociated walnut case, the lid lined in red satin, the tray compartmented and lined in red baize and containing the pistol along with a possibly period 'Colt' priming flask, a scissors ball mould, a pewter oil bottle and a wooden cap-pot
