AN 1828/31 PATTERN SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD TO THE 79th CAMERON HIGHLANDERS,
circa 1880, with dismountable straight 32 1/2in. double edged blade deeply etched with floral motifs within arabesques, battle honours from Egypt to Lucknow within ribbons to the right hand side, 'Cameron Highlanders' around '79' etched to the left hand side together with a 'VR' cypher, twin blind narrow fullers to both sides of the blade for two thirds of its length, the forte with inlaid proof-mark to one side with 'SQUIRE, CLIFFORD ST, BOND ST, LONDON' to the reverse, iron basket hilt of traditional form (cleaned, no plating), shagreen wire-bound grip, bun pommel and red white and blue period felt liner, together with its iron scabbard with later blacked finish
