A HUNTING HANGER,
18th century, with 19in. spear-point single-edged blade with a shallow fuller on each side and engraved on each side at the ricasso with panels of scrollwork and within each fuller respectively, with a running stag on the left side and a running hare on the right side, the ricasso with signature beneath shell guard, brass hilt decorated in low relief throughout including downturned shell-guard decorated with a vignette involving Eve and the snake in the garden of Eden, short straight rear-quillon with scrolled finial, quillon-block decorated with a panel involving a pride of lions and another panel involving a hound with a sacred cow, knuckle-guard with a standing figure in contemporary costume and pommel decorated with scrollwork inhabited with creatures, faceted wooden grip, possible replacement leather-covered scabbard (blade polished with some loss to decoration, some wear to high spots of decoration on the hilt).
