AN 18-BORE FLINTLOCK CONTINENTAL SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
circa 1790, with slightly shortened 30 3/4in. swamped octagonal barrel with straight-groove rifling and struck at the breech with 'Spanish' marks, silver spider fore-sight, relined touch-hole, flat bevelled lock, later full stock with horn fore-end cap, brass mounts including butt-plate decorated in low relief with rococo ornament and a classical soldier on the tang, iron sling mounts and horn-tipped ramrod (fore-end replaced, iron parts cleaned)
